Sustainable Urban Development Plan for Los Cerrillos with a view to the 2040 Canario Strategic Plan and with a focus on the ecological and cultural identity of the city.
The proposal seeks to conceive a Cultural Ecosystem through the generation of two fundamental and complementary axes: an Educational Trail and a Wetland Interpretation Trail. Within each of them, imaginaries of possible scenarios are generated in the urban-rural space and its surrounding natural environment.
The Educational Trail proposes a route that unifies the existing educational centres in the city into a circuit. Through it, the functionality and landscape value of the pre-existing urban area is increased by reorganising the current transport dynamics, prioritising the circulation and accessibility of users, generating a new environment that incorporates cultural and natural elements of the town's everyday life.
The Wetlands Interpretation Trail establishes a continuity in the existing natural patches in the rural-urban area of the city. The proposal seeks to reclaim the natural corridors as public spaces that promote knowledge and appreciation of nature by restoring native flora and fauna through the reforestation of indigenous bushland and promoting the resurgence of wildlife.
Both trails are articulated as potential subject matter for an educational-environmental synergy given the proximity of the native natural corridors to the educational centres. They are thus provided as possible locations for didactic activities and on-site research for teachers and students. Likewise, both trails are promoted as a recreational and tourist circuit in the area, positioning Los Cerrillos as a destination for visitors to the micro-region and thus stimulating local economic development.
